ViziProfiler¶
ViziProfiler (shown as "ViziProfiler — by ViziCAL") is a separate program that you use before you calibrate a display. It tests your displays and tells you which of the display's own picture settings get closest to your display standard on their own.
Starting from the best setting means ViziCAL's calibration has less to correct, so you keep more grey levels and a cleaner image.
ViziProfiler doesn't calibrate. When it has finished, you calibrate the display in ViziCAL as usual.
What ViziProfiler does¶
- Reads your hardware: the displays, the graphics card and the connected photometer.
- Checks the hardware against your task. For example, it checks whether the screen size, pixel size and connection suit primary diagnosis under the standard you choose.
- Measures each display setting you choose. These are picture modes and colour presets such as 6500 K or sRGB, measured with a set of greyscale, colour and visual tests.
- Recommends the setting that needs the smallest correction, and says how confident it is.
- Puts your displays back the way they were, or applies the recommended setting if you choose.
- Makes a PDF report of every test, plus the measurements as spreadsheet files.
Before you start¶
- ViziCAL and ViziProfiler on the same computer.
- A supported photometer. A colour photometer (colorimeter) is needed for the white point and colour tests.
- Allow about 10–30 minutes for each display, depending on how many settings and tests you choose. ViziProfiler shows an estimate before it starts.
- Turn off Windows HDR for the displays you test (Settings → System → Display → Use HDR). ViziProfiler can't measure a display correctly while HDR is on.
- Turn off Windows Auto Color Management for the displays you test (Settings → System → Display → Automatically manage color for apps, Windows 11 only). While it's on, Windows changes the colours of everything on screen, including ViziProfiler's test patches.
Note
ViziCAL Apply pauses while ViziProfiler is open, so it doesn't change the displays while they're being measured. It starts again when you close ViziProfiler, and applies your calibrations again.
Open ViziProfiler¶
- Click Start.
- Open the ViziCAL folder.
- Click ViziProfiler.
The same folder has ViziProfiler (simulator demo). It runs ViziProfiler on two pretend displays so you can see the whole process, and it doesn't change your real displays.
If ViziProfiler didn't finish last time¶
ViziProfiler records your displays' settings before it changes anything. If it closes unexpectedly, for example after a power cut, it offers to put them back the next time you open it:
- Yes: restore the original settings now.
- No: leave the displays as they are, and don't ask again.
- Cancel: ask again next time.
Choose Yes unless you have already set the displays up again yourself.
